The strategies required to ensure that community engagement events are successful have been outlined throughout this program: however, key activities are examined here. A major community engagement event requires a large commitment of time (usually 2–3 months in planning) and resources.

The choice of participative process that underpins the event will depend on a number of factors, including:

  • whether the process is being facilitated and the expertise of the facilitator
  • community expectations of the event
  • departmental expectations of the event
  • community expectations of the event.
