Media research
Most agencies monitor regional print and electronic media and store information relevant to the agency. A review of this information can be useful and help to identify the following:
- the types of issues being reported relating to the agency
- location of community hot spots
- the level of interest by community organisations or citizens in affairs of the agency
- the extent to which media coverage is positive or negative
- the history on how issues have arisen and how they have been responded to.
More general media research can identify broader issues of interest to communities.
The results of the research may help you identify key community members for later contact and also start to understand the level of concern (positive or negative) associated with issues. The information collected from this step may also provide input into both a community and issues analysis and risk assessment.
